Electric Vehicle Community Car Club

The HECCC REBORN!

 

We were pleased to have launched the first Electric Vehicle Community Car Club in Sussex, in the village of Henfield in June 2023.

On the second anniversary in June 2025 the Henfield Electric Community Car Club has become its own independent entity. Now with over 80 members, both self driver hire and those who require a volunteer driver to get out and about our Aim is to reach 100 members this coming year.

 

A group of local people have become the founding trustees and, through they will remain a full member of CTS, they will guide and take the organistaion forwards toward a sustainable future.

 

Across West Sussex there are approximately 600 cars per 1000 residents and approximately 29% of households have two or more cars.

HECCC wants to promote the use of zero emission vehicles in Sussex which to reduce fossil fueled journeys and it will be a sustainable asset for the village of Henfield.

 

Working in collaboration with Henfield Parish Council, The Henfield Community Partnership and Sustainable Henfield The aim is to provide a practical, zero-emission alternative to using ICE vehicles.

One of the aims of the club is to have a positive environmental impact by reducing the need for a second car and to bring the community together, giving residents a tangible sense of ownership. Volunteers and a local steering group will be recruited.

 

In its first year the HECCC was successful in taking over 7300kg of C02 out of the environment in and around the village as well as reducing emissions of NOx, particulates and other pollutants and helping to improve local air quality.

 

Running an average car these days can cost more than £3,500 annually. So hiring one of our vehicles rather than having that second car on the driveway can be a big saving!

From June 2025 The club incurs a small membership subscription of £5 per month.

Vehicles can be hired on a self-drive basis or with a volunteer if needed.

Vehicle Hire Charge:

• £6 per hour (8 hours max)
• Over 9 hours £54 per day
• 24 – hour £54
