Dame Esther Rantzen – Honoured in Minibus Naming Ceremony

In January, we hosted a special event at Age UK, West Sussex Brighton & Hove, Lamb House in Haywards Heath, to honour the renowned English journalist and BBC television presenter, Dame Esther Rantzen. The ceremony was proudly supported by Age UK and was a heartfelt recognition of Dame Esther’s unwavering commitment to combating social isolation and loneliness.

Dame Esther Rantzen, a beloved public figure, is widely known for her significant contributions to initiatives like ‘The Silver Line,’ a telephone helpline dedicated to providing companionship and support for the elderly. In a touching letter, Dame Esther expressed her gratitude for having a minibus named after her, acknowledging that the real honour lies in the impactful work carried out by the CTS team every day. The decision to name one of the minibuses after Dame Esther comes as a gesture of appreciation for her continuous support of our Travel Buddy service, which addresses the prevalent issue of social seclusion across Sussex. The event was supported by Helen Rice, CEO of Age UK West Sussex, Brighton and Hove and Councillor Alison Bennett.
